I just got done watching The Great British Baking Show: The Professionals on Netflix and thought I’d give a quick little shout out to the Dallas-based baker who made our wedding cake and cupcakes. I’m getting this blog back up and running and figured what better way than with something sweet.
Introducing Stefanie of Basic Batter! She bakes using clean and organic ingredients. Many of her recipes are naturally vegan, but she’s also happy to tailor any recipe to meet any and all dietary needs. She’s located in north Dallas and I highly recommend her for any baked goods needs!
Mark’s the one with the sweet tooth, so I let him take the reins a bit with the flavors. Stefanie had us choose three flavors we were interested in tasting while being open to ideas and incredibly helpful with suggestions. She made three mini 4″ cakes for us to try. We ended up with plenty of leftovers to take home and enjoy all week long! Mark and I chose white chocolate raspberry, red velvet, and tiramisu – all of them were incredible.
Having a wedding cake is a great tradition, but we didn’t want anything over the top. Our wedding reception ended up including about 150 wonderful people and we wanted to make sure everyone got something they liked. Cupcakes were the perfect addition. We decided on a two tier cake with tiramisu on the bottom 8″ and a rich chocolate on the 6″ top which was estimated to feed approximately 70 people. Mark and I added on 7 dozen cupcakes to accompany our beautiful cake in lemon, red velvet (vegan and gluten free), and vanilla bean.
We expected there to be some leftovers, so we purchased cupcake to-go boxes found on amazon for people to be able to take them home. We ended up not having any left over – they were such a hit! If you do decide to go the cupcake route, think about ordering extras to offer them as a sort of party favor.
As for the decoration, we kept it simple. Like much of our wedding decor, we didn’t want to take away from the unique venue and personal touches. We opted for some light texture on the wedding cake and kept the icing all white. It was also important to us for our dog, Dexter, to be a part of our big day. So, we ordered a small figurine of him from Cameleon Create’s Etsy shop. I did a ton of research to find the best artist to do him justice, and now we have a little keepsake to appreciate forever. We also ordered a simple laser cut wedding topper from Rawkrft on Etsy. Our florist, The Floral Eclectic, contributed a small dried arrangement to place on the bottom and it was exactly what we hoped for.

Hi Steven! I have not tried any of their other menu items, but they look delicious from the photos on the website. She mentioned she makes a really good almond cake as well.
