Microfiber and Cotton Cloths – These are great replacements for paper towels. Microfiber cloths can clean up large and small messes with as little as water because of their texture. Cotton cloths can replace paper towels when cleaning or eating. Keep a clean stack of them in a convenient place and throw them through the laundry with your towels once you’re done using them!
Lemons and Ice – This pair is an amazing de-gunking solution for your garbage disposal. Start by running water down the drain where your disposal is located. Toss down a few pieces of cut up lemons (peel and all) while the disposal is running. The lemon helps with any foul smells lingering down there and starts to loosen up any grime. Follow the lemons with a few ice cubes to loosen up and remove any remaining grime from the blades of your disposal. Once the disposal has gone through the lemon and ice, turn off the disposal while you run the water a little while longer.
Steam-clean – By steam cleaning in the shower, you can cut back on harmful chemicals and scrubbing. You can save time and resources by cleaning while you’re taking your shower rather than running the hot water at a separate time. I like to clean while the conditioner is in my hair. The soap buildup seems to wipe right off.
Eliminate Clutter – Less clutter means less dust! Try to tidy up every day to keep your home looking organized and clean. While you’re tidying, have a microfiber cloth handy to collect any dust or debris you may come across.
Collect Rain Water – Keep it simple, or. have some fun with it. Get a barrel or tub to collect rain water in your yard. The rain water can then be used to water your plants and grass. If you live in an area with a lot of mosquitos, put a mosquito dunk (safe for plants and animals!) in your water to prevent them from making a home there. You can also add aquatic plants or fish to your rain water container.
Olive Oil – Not only is it delicious and easy to find in any grocery store, olive oil also shines stainless steel appliances and can be used as a wood polish. Add 2 parts olive oil and 1 part vinegar or lemon juice to a spray bottle and shake. Spray on your surface and work it in with a microfiber cloth, Optional: add 10 drops of your favorite essential oil, like lavender or rosemary, to fill your room with a fresh scent!
Crack a Window – There’s nothing better than fresh air! Many room sprays contain harmful chemicals to pets and people alike. On top of that, once you’re done with your spray, the can or bottle goes in the trash – and they do not decompose in the landfill.
Drain Cleaner – Start by pouring hot water down your drain, followed by 1/2 cup of baking soda, then 1/2 cup of vinegar. Let the mixture work its magic for a few minutes, then pour more hot water down the drain. The mixture creates pressure to push the clog through and open the pipes back up again.
